Humans have forever dreamed of what it’s like to soar about the sky like birds. In February, a new episode of the award-winning PBS program NATURE will take viewers closer than ever before to this elusive dream. Raptor Force features thrilling in-flight video captured by tiny cameras mounted on raptor bodies. The bird’s-eye views of flight include a peregrine falcon’s stoop—its rapid corkscrew plummet and one of the most amazing feats of flight control in all of nature. Other breathtaking footage shows why the golden eagle, red-tail hawk, grey owl, and other raptors are elite predators and masters of the sky.
The one-hour program also explores how raptors’ complex anatomy has influenced aeronautical engineers in their efforts to advance aircraft technology.
Raptor Force, premiering nationally on February 18, is part of the 25th-anniversary season of NATURE, the Peabody and Emmy Award–winning series produced by Thirteen/WNET New York. |
